Introduction

Hello, I’m Lewis, and my journey through the realms of videography and digital marketing has been a fascinating voyage of discovery and creativity. Combining the visual storytelling prowess of videography with the strategic depth of marketing allows me to create compelling narratives that resonate with audiences and drive engagement.

My Journey into Videography

My passion for videography began as an exploration of visual storytelling, where each frame and scene could convey powerful messages and emotions. This passion evolved into a professional pursuit, where I learned the intricacies of capturing moments and weaving them into a cohesive narrative.

The Intersection of Art and Marketing

In the digital age, marketing has transcended traditional boundaries, embracing art forms like videography to create immersive and engaging experiences. By integrating videography into marketing strategies, brands can communicate their stories more effectively, forging a deeper connection with their audience.

The Role of Videography in Digital Marketing

Videography has emerged as a pivotal element in digital marketing, transforming the way brands interact with their audience.

Enhancing Brand Storytelling

Videos offer a dynamic medium to tell a brand’s story, showcasing products or services in action while highlighting their human side. This storytelling can evoke emotions, making the brand more relatable and memorable to consumers.

Increasing Engagement and Conversion Rates

Visual content, especially video, has a proven track record of boosting engagement and conversion rates. Videos can simplify complex messages, making them more digestible and appealing to the audience, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of marketing campaigns.

Creative Process: From Concept to Execution

The creation of a marketing video is an art form that combines creativity with strategic planning.

Ideation and Conceptualisation

The first step is to define the video’s purpose and message, followed by brainstorming ideas that align with the brand’s identity and marketing goals. This phase sets the foundation for the video’s narrative and visual style.

Filming and Editing Techniques That Capture Attention

With a concept in place, the filming process begins, employing various techniques to capture the essence of the message. The editing stage is crucial, where the story is pieced together, ensuring that the final product is engaging and aligns with the brand’s objectives.

Case Studies: Videography in Action

Let’s delve into a few case studies where videography played a central role in the marketing strategy, demonstrating its impact on audience engagement.

Success Stories from My Portfolio

After completing my Level 3 extended diploma in Media Production and Technologies at Exeter College, I decided to take a gap year (before what I thought would be university) to try and develop my skills as a freelance videographer. After delivering a handful of projects for free to local business owners that I knew, they started to become insistent on paying me for my work due to their satisfaction with the final product. This encouraged me to continue with my venture. Little did I know it was going to catapult me into the world of business!

Following my year of freelance, I decided it would be a good idea to join an established Web design company (WebBoss) as their lead videographer to broaden my experience and business connections. This led me to work on two pivotable projects, an Awareness Campaign for the NHS which was featured on BBC Spotlight, and, a marketing campaign for Ryman Stationary. Unfortunately, I was made redundant by the company due to the lockdown at the time.

I was separated from my passion as a videographer for a year (I still worked on personal projects) whilst I was working in various sales roles, understanding I would harness key skills for my career. Blessed with a wealth of connections in my county, I was approached by the Education & Training Foundation to produce and deliver a series of “employer day in the life” videos for South Devon College’s employability skills curriculum.

Whilst working in my marketing agency, Maven Creative, I have had the privilege of working with many local businesses on producing visual marketing and training material. Click here to take a look at our showreel!
